Our work together starts with a free consultation. If it is good fit, we then begin with a careful, individualized intake assessment that draws on our expertise in understanding complex problems and the factors that maintain them. We also look at your individual strengths to create a customized plan. Typically, clients and I work together for 3-6 months, assessing progress as we go, though shorter and longer timeframes may be appropriate based on your goals.
Working with an expert in behavior change can be powerful in helping you get unstuck and expedite progress. It is also a significant investment of your valuable time, energy, and finances. I offer 15-minute free consultations to help you figure out if working with me is a “good fit.” After talking, I may invite you to consider working together or provide you with alternative referral options that might better align with your goals.
I am now offering both video-conferencing (using a HIPAA compliant and secure system called Doxy.me) and in-person sessions. Research shows that virtual sessions can be just as effective as in-person. For those, interested in meeting at my office, clients first are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID and to agree to abide by the CDC safety precautions to reduce risk of transmission.
To provide the quality and type of care consistent with our mission, I accept self-pay and would be considered an out-of-network provider. This means you would pay the cost of the session at the time of service. The typical 45-minute session costs $185, and initial intake and assessment report is $275. Group support options are typically $30/hour. Monthly we provide a detailed invoice (i.e. superbill) to submit for possible reimbursement from insurance. I also provide a small number of reduced fee and pro-bono services for those who demonstrate financial need. This is an application process and typically a longer wait. I’m happy to answer specific financial questions during the consultation.
I am committed to increasing access to specialty care for those who may not live in major cities. I am licensed to provide psychological services to clients who live in Utah and Idaho. I also maintain an e-passport/APIT that affords the ability to provide services to clients located in Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Nevada, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Texas. My consulting services are offered nationally.
Coping with a chronic illness, new injury, or diagnosis is a major adjustment, and it’s typical to experience a stress response. There is overwhelming evidence that stress impacts the onset of some diseases, our healing, pain intensity, and ability to engage in medical recommendations. Working with a health psychologist can enhance your resiliency, overall health, and allow you to focus on what matters most.
In psychotherapy, I draw upon several empirically validated treatments, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, EMDR, Exposure Therapy, Hypnotherapy and CBT. For health coaching and lifestyle interventions, I use the Mayo Clinic Wellness Model.
Because your physical and psychological health are intricately connected, it’s important that your treatment plan integrates input from all your providers. With your consent, I work to communicate regularly with other members of your treatment team and encourage you to be a key part of this process. This may be phone calls, sharing records and results, or in-person meetings.
Because of the care and intentionality behind the intake process, getting in to be seen usually takes several weeks.
